Live Sound Engineer (Must have experience)

The Sound Engineering Volunteer/Student for Tunes @ Noon supports live performances at The Church Studio by assisting with setup, sound checks, and live audio needs while mentoring students and representing The Church Studio with professionalism and hospitality. This role is both technical and relational; supporting artists, students, staff, and guests in a live public setting. 

*Must have sound engineering experience*

Key Responsibilities 

Audio & Technical Support

• Assist with setup and breakdown of chairs, sound equipment (PA, microphones, DI boxes, cables, monitors)

• Assist artists with load-in and stage plot

• Support sound check and live audio adjustments during performances

• Monitor levels to ensure a clean, balanced listening experience

• Troubleshoot basic audio issues quickly and calmly

Student Mentorship & Education

• Mentor audio engineering students during live sessions

• Demonstrate best practices for live sound, signal flow, and stage etiquette

• Encourage professionalism, teamwork, and learning in a real-world environment

Artist Relations

• Greet and assist performing artists with courtesy and respect

• Help artists feel welcomed, supported, and confident on stage

• Communicate clearly with artists regarding sound needs and performance flow

Professional Representation & Guest Experience

• Represent The Church Studio in a professional, positive, and hospitable manner

• Provide excellent customer service to guests, staff, and volunteers

• Serve as an ambassador for The Church Studio’s mission and history

• Assist with light public relations by answering basic questions about the studio and program

Program & Event Support

• Support event flow and timing in coordination with staff

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized performance area

• Follow all safety guidelines and studio protocols

• Assist staff with minor tasks as needed to ensure a smooth event

Ideal Skills & Experience

• Graduate of an Audio Engineer program or equivalent work experience 

• Basic to intermediate knowledge of live sound and audio equipment

• Experience with microphones, mixers, and PA systems preferred

• Calm, solution-oriented demeanor in live performance settings

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Interest in mentoring and education

• Punctual, dependable, and detail-oriented
