Docent – The Church Studio
Part-Time Volunteer Position | Reports to: Volunteer Coordinator
Position Overview:
Docents at The Church Studio are passionate ambassadors who help bring our musical history and mission to life. They lead guided tours, assist with private events, and educate guests—ranging from students to music enthusiasts—about the legacy, stories, and ongoing programming of The Church Studio. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy public speaking, storytelling, and creating memorable experiences for visitors.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead Public and Private Tours:
Provide engaging, informative, and accurate tours of The Church Studio, highlighting its historic significance, musical contributions, and current role in the community. -
Educational Outreach:
Facilitate and support educational experiences for student groups, sharing the studio’s legacy and its impact on music and culture. -
Event Assistance:
Support private events by greeting guests, offering brief tours or insights, and ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere. -
Public Engagement:
Answer visitor questions, provide program information, and represent The Church Studio with enthusiasm and professionalism. -
Preservation of Spaces:
Help maintain the integrity of exhibit areas and historical artifacts during tours and events.
Qualifications:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Comfort with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences

Interest in music history, education, and community engagement

Dependable, flexible, and a team player

Prior tour guiding or customer service experience is a plus, but not required

Must be 18 or older
Training Provided:
All docents receive comprehensive training covering historical content, tour guidelines, visitor interaction, and safety procedures.

Docents help uphold the legacy and ongoing relevance of The Church Studio by assisting with tours and events that connect visitors to our recording facility, artists, and programming. Their presence ensures a welcoming, informed, and mission-driven experience for every guest. The Church Studio events support music makers with opportunities to earn cash and recording time and to engage new audiences to advance their careers. -
Educate:
Through guided tours and student engagement, docents educate visitors about the studio’s rich music history, legendary artists, and the role The Church Studio continues to play in the music industry. They help interpret our exhibits in ways that are accessible, accurate, and compelling. -
Inspire:
By sharing the stories, sounds, and spirit of The Church Studio, docents spark curiosity and creativity in visitors of all ages. Their enthusiasm helps inspire the next generation of artists, fans, and music historians.
